Gilles Bastin was appointed as a professor of sociology at Grenoble’s Institute of Political Studies (IEP) in January 2017. He was first recruited as a lecturer in 2005, having previously taught at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris-Saclay and Paris II University.

His research focuses on the sociology of media and information, longitudinal analysis of careers in information, the history and epistemology of social science, and on the methodology, politics and ethics of data usage in social science, in particular data derived from social media and the internet.

He is currently the joint-head of the Grenoble School of Journalism (EJG) and head of the Regulations team at Pacte.
