Luca Muscarà is a DEA at the Fondation de la Maison des Sciences de l'Homme and associate professor of political geography at the University of Molise (Italy) in the department of Economics. His scientific interests are at the intersection of the history of geographical thought, and political, urban, and cultural geography. His research on the geography of Jean Gottmann has been recognized with a silver medal by the Société de Géographie.

He has been a visiting professor at UCLA in the department of Geography, an Erasmus+ professor at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Istanbul) in the department of City and Regional Planning, and a contract professor at the University of Rome – La Sapienza’s school of architecture. Former vice-president of the World Society for Ekistics (an NGO in consultative status with the United Nations’ ECOSOC on problems and science of human settlements), he is in the Scientific Committee of LiMes, Rivista italiana di geopolitica (Rome), and a reviewer for Geotema, the Bollettino della Società Geografica Italiana and the Revue de Géographie Alpine. Between 1992 and 2000, he co-founded and co-edited the international remote sensing journal Sistema Terra, and more recently he has researched for the Observatory on Security and Strategic Scenarios of Nomisma on demography, migrations and diasporas.

With John Agnew he co-authored Making Political Geography (2nd edition), and has contributed chapters to the Wiley-Blackwell Companion to Political Geography, to Geographies of Power (2018), and to Changing Geographies of the State (2020). He is currently developing a project on the history of geographical thought with Olivier Labussière at Pacte and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France's Departement des Cartes et Plans.
